Electric drills have many common uses such as driving a nail and repairing a toilet paper hanger. These are useful tools that all homeowners should have.

Corded vs. Cordless

The common debate surrounding drills is concerning whether a battery powered or a corded drill is better. In this case, the debate is often whether the homeowner values money or convenience better. The major downside of a corded drill is that it has to be near enough to an outlet in order to be used. Handyguy Paul does point out that even if you are on a budget, you can find cheap corded drills that may outperform a more expensive battery powered drill.

Electric Drill Test: Old vs. New

Older battery powered drills may die faster. However, the lithium ion drill lasts longer and is lighter than an older battery powered drill. These electric drills tend to be more expensive. Handyguy Paul performed a speed test between a battery powered drill and a 40-50 year old drill. In this case, the older electric drill outperformed the newer battery generated drill. One downside of an older electric drill is that it does not have the handling or grip of  newer electric drills.

Electric drills have many uses, and are a staple tool that DIY-ers and homeowners alike should have around. Make sure you know your primary use for the drill beforehand in order to accurately choose the right one that fits your home needs.
