Deck Cleaning Solutions for a PVC or Vinyl Deck
In this video, Handyguy Paul talks with Ray from Decks R Us about how to clean PVC and vinyl deck products. Tough stains from pollen, dirt, or animals can be a pain to get out from a deck. With the right tools, home owners can easily get out those stains and have a spotless deck.
There are many products made for cleaning composite decks such as Corte-Clean and Chomp Pro Gutter cleaner. Both of these can either be found at a local hardware store or on Amazon.com. However, there are many other products that are also designed specifically for composite deck cleaning.
To avoid tough deck stains, Handyguy Paul reminds home owners that they can ensure a clean deck by following a few routine cleaning tips. Home owners can ensure a clean deck with a broom or hose as well a soap/water mixture for light stains such as animal droppings. If leaves and animal droppings are left unattended, they can lend to tougher stains that are in need of a tough solution.
Ray from Decks R Us recommends various PVC decking stain solutions starting with milder solutions and increasing to tougher solutions. A mixture of Dawn and water can work well to remove mild stains. Moving up, Simple Green and Spray Nine can deal with tougher stains. If you have a tough stain like tar or grease, Ray suggests that you use WD-40 or Mineral Spirits. Apply the cleaner appropriate for your problem and scrub the stain with a stiff bristle brush, Scotch Brite sponge, or another pot scrubber.
When cleaning a stain off the PVC and vinyl deck, it’s very important to scrub with the grain of the wood. In addition, only use a stiff bristle brush or Scotch Brite sponges, on vinyl or PVC. These brushes can permanently damage traditional composite or vinyl covered composite decks decks.
Make sure you are staying in tune with deck upkeep in order to avoid tough stains. If they do occur on your PVC and vinyl deck, these solutions are sure to help clean them.
